NARS At First Sight Palette

At First Sight is a new, limited edition palette from NARS, housing two of their best selling complexion products – Deep Throat Blush, and Laguna Bronzer, and a quad of bestselling eyeshadows – All About Eve, Bellissima, Nouveau Monde and Cordura, all contained in a sleek, mirrored palette.

Deep Throat and Laguna are favourites of mine, and them being paired up for this palette ticks major boxes for me. Deepthroat is a coral with golden shimmer, and Laguna a not-too-bronzey bronzer with subtle golden shimmer in it.

The eyeshadows are all wearable shades – three neutrals – All About Eve; a flesh toned shade with a hint of shimmer, Bellissima; a perfect matt mushroomey taupe, and Cordura; a deep brown with flecks of golden glitter. Then, in case you fancy to take it up a notch and break through the neutral barrier, Nouveau Monde is in there too – a satin lilac colour, which is really pretty, and nice to use as an inner corner highlighter.

I’ve really enjoyed playing with this palette and creating different looks, it really is very versatile – you can get lots of different effects from the one palette and as there is a blusher and bronzer inside too, I have found my make up bag over the past two weeks has really slimmed down! This is ideal for travelling with for that very reason.

Here is one of the looks I created with the palette:

I started by adding All About Eve to the inner 1/3 of my eyelid with a flat eyeshadow brush, then using a fluffy brush, added Bellissima onto the rest of my lid and into my socket. I then took a pencil brush and added Cordura into the crease of my eyelid, blending it across and downwards to meet my eyelashes. I used the end of my flat brush to add Cordura under my eye too.

I used a black eyeliner pencil to line my waterline, and used it very close to my eyelashes on my upper lids. I finished by adding some Nouveau Monde into the inner corners of my eye with a small brush, and then added mascara to my lashes.

For this look I applied Bellissima to the crease of my eye using a fluffy brush, then added All About Eve to my eyelid and blended the two together. I lined the my waterline with a black pencil, and used black gel liner on my upper lid, then finished with mascara.

You’ll have to excuse my eyebrows in this photo – I was testing out a new brow product and didn’t realise quite how dark they were until I saw this photo!!

For this look I used Nouveau World all over my lid, and under my lower lash line. I added Bellissima into the crease using a fluffy brush, and added eyeliner to my upper lid and waterline, then finished with mascara.

For reference, I am wearing Deep Throat as a blusher in each of these looks, with a little Laguna bronzer.

There are three totally different looks I have created, but the possibilities go on and on. I am definitely going to keep experimenting! The quality of NARS products has never let me down, and I continue to be impressed with At First Sight.

Bobbi Brown Bellini Lip & Eye Palette

The Bobbi Brown Bellini Lip & Eye Palette is a gorgeous, limited edition piece they they have brought out as part of their Christmas 2012 collection. It’s very compact (think half a CD box in size but double the thickness) yet houses a whopping 10 eye shadows and 4 lip glosses, a large mirror and two brushes.

The eye shades included are, from left to right – top row – Navajo, Candlelight Gold (metallic), Petal (shimmer wash), Cement, Prosecco (new). Bottom row – Truffle, Bellini (shimmer wash), Bronze Stone (shimmer wash), Brown Sugar (metallic), Caviar.
They are all very soft, blend-able shadows – I’ve been using the palette for the past few weeks and haven’t experienced any fallout at all which is always a bonus! A lot of the colours are fairly neutral and pale but if you can work in some of the shimmer/metallic, or the Caviar, into your look you can totally vamp it up. Navajo is a great colour for all over the lid as a base, and although you may wonder what a pink shade (Petal) is doing with all these smokey colours, I have been wearing it with caviar and Candlelight Gold for a smokey eye and I think they’re gorgeous together!
Here I am wearing a fairly strong, and fairly soft look done with this palette. In the top photo I have used a nude lipstick and put the Bobbi Brown gloss on top. The bottom look is done using just the Bobbi gloss (Bare and Bubble Bath mixed together)
The lip colours are very pretty, yet very sheer. They give just a hint of colour to the lips, but a gorgeous glossy finish. When I want a stronger lip, I have been wearing a lipstick with one of the glosses over the top.
The colours are, from left to right – Bubble Bath (new), Chrome Pink (shimmer) (new), Bellini (glitter) & Bare.

I have loved using the palette. It’s such a perfect size, slotting into my make up bag so easily, and the fact the brushes are ‘proper’ Bobbi Brown brushes, shrunk down is perfect too. Another thing I love is that the mirror is as big as the palette so you don’t have to contort yourself to be able to see what you’re doing which you so often get with palettes!

The Bellini Palette costs £59 from Bobbibrown.co.uk plus at the moment they are offering a free mini mascara duo with every order, free delivery (or free named day delivery today only) and a free silver make up bag when you spend over £50 with the code SILVER – bargain!

Bobbi Brown Tube Tint Trio

Another offering from Bobbi Brown this Christmas, is the Tube Tint Trio – a new, limited edition set of three of their cult favourite lip glosses – Grape, Pink Mist, and Pink Violet.

Each 15ml tube showcases one of the different Bobbi Brown lip gloss finishes – Grape being the glitter, Pink Mist being shimmer, and Pink Violet for just a hint of colour.

When looking at the tubes, I thought Grape would be my least favourite, but on the lips, it is oh so special. This is the little black sequin dress of the lip gloss world; with the different parts of the lips twinkling when the light hits the tiny particles of silver and purple glitter. It’s a way of wearing that on-trend purpley red colour in a glam way, without looking too vampy.

Pink Mist is my next favourite. It is a very natural peachy nude gloss with a subtle hint of golden shimmer. It’s so pretty, perfect for pairing with a smokey eye.

Pink Violet is a jellyish colour which wasn’t quite as bright on the lip as I thought it would be – it’s a hint of cool toned pink which adds a sheen of colour to the lips. It’s fairly similar in Pink Mist in neutralness, but gives a different tone to the lips. It’s lovely for a soft day time look, or again, for a smokey eye.

The lip glosses are all easy to apply without having to use a separate brush, and I’ve found to be long lasting, even through drinking, they stay put for a while! They are rather thick but don’t feel sticky – I’ve loved using each of them, and the best thing is is that the set is only £28, making each gloss under £10 – bargain!

MAC Marilyn Monroe Haul & Swatches

MAC have just released their latest limited edition collection – the Marilyn Monroe collection. It came out online in the UK on Monday, where many pieces are already sold out, and comes into MAC stores tomorrow. It was released last week in USA.

The collection is supposed to embody everything about Marilyn Monroe – being sexy and glamourous. It’s a fairly big collection, with lashes, brow products, liners… but the main players for me are the lipsticks – one nude, and four red shades. It was hard to not buy all of them, but in the end I went for Deeply Adored and Love Goddess.

I also liked the look of the blushes, The Perfect Cheek being more pinky, and Legendary more coral – I went for the latter.

The packaging is black and sleek and has images of Marilyn Monroe on it. I heard that these images are ones that have never been seen before and MAC has bought the exclusive rights to be able to use them for this collection.

Once you slip off the outer housing of the lipstick packaging, it looks like a normal box, except there’s a little red lip print in the inside of the lid – cute!

The plastic is glossy rather than the standard black, and the lipstick casing is black all over, rather than silver at the top.

The blush, Legendary, is really pretty. It’s a very pale peachy coral which works well on pale skin. I am NC15 in MAC, and I think it could look very ashy on people with darker skin tones. That said, for paler people it’s gorgeous. As it looks quite light in the pan I thought I’d have to be heavy handed with application, but it’s very pigmented on my skin and the colour pay off is great.

The lipsticks I chose were Love Goddess (on the left) and Deeply Adored (on the right).

I have swatched them next to some other red toned MAC lipsticks for comparison.

Next to the other reds, Love Goddess looks very pink – on the lips it definitely looks more red but I like that it has a hint of pink to it – combining my two most favourite lipstick shades! It is satin in finish and I’ve seen elsewhere that it lasts a really long time (I’m unable to comment yet as these literally just arrived through my door!)

Deeply Adored is a much deeper, darker colour, bang on trend for the berry lip craze at the moment. One of my favourite red lipsticks is Ruby Woo, particularly because it’s matt in texture, and I think this one will follow suit.

And that is my little haul!

Have you got your eye on anything in the collection, or have you ordered anything? Let me know what you got! I was very tempted by one of the eyeshadows – I don’t know if I should go in store and get it, so let me know what you got and your thoughts!

MAC ‘Pink Friday’ Lipstick

Last Friday, MAC launched a new lipstick which Nicki Minaj had personally designed, to celebrate the launch of her new album, Pink Friday. The limited edition lipstick is only available to buy from Selfridges, or Mac.com, and can only be bought on Fridays while stocks last. I do love a bright pink lipstick, and seeing as it was limited edition it made me want it even more, so had to buy it as a little ‘happy Christmas to me’! It arrived this morning wrapped in gorgeous Christmas paper courtesy of Selfridges, so I swatched it straight away.

Excuse the hat, I’m rather cold!

I swatched it on my hand next to a few other MAC lipsticks I have similar in shade. It is very bright and although it’s a Satin finish, it’s rather like the Saint Germain (which is Amplified) in it’s finish. It’s creamy and although it’s more fushia compared to the others I’ve swatched on my hand, it seems to have a blue tone to it. I think it will look great with a smoky eye for a night out on the town, so shall give it a try this weekend… Friday infact!
